History...

This historic block was the wholesale district in the 1800's. Eli and Aaron's great-grandfather W.M Karesh started in 1890 in this location. This became one of the first distributors for Union and Hanes underwear in the Southeast. W.M. Karesh's son-in-law (Herman Hyman) took over the business in 1941 changing the name to Hyman's Wholesale Co. He then passed the business down to the 3rd generation, to WM Hyman who continued on with the wholesale dry goods business until 1986. At that time, the Omni Hotel was being built and the city condemed the back 240ft of these 280ft warehouses to make room for a parking garage. Eli and Aaron Hyman, the great grandsons, are now operating Hyman's Seafood and Aaron's Deli in these three same locations, and hoping to pass on a Hyman's presence on meeting street to the 5th generation. 111 years of customer service in those buildings and proud of it. The floors are of heart pine, and the bricks are old English with the original oyster mortar. The wrought iron staircase was built in Kenton, Ohio in 1887 and shipped to Charleston upon construction of this building.

Aaron and Eli.....

Aaron and Eli grew up in Charleston working in the restaurant industry since they were 12 years old. They learned how to operate these most successful restaurants by the road of hard knocks and street smarts. They live it, and breath this business every day of the week. One of the owners are always present on location ensuring quality and service 7 days a week. this hands on approach is one of the main reasons Hyman's has become the best seafood along the east coast. Eli and Aaron have a lot to be grateful for and share there blessed success by giving back to various charities. All the net profits from the merchandise they sell is donated to local and national charities. Last year, over $107,000 was donated locally and nationally. (To view their selection, see the merchandise page) In addition they host their Thanksgiving dinner in which they feed over 1500 of the less fortunate.
